The common lizard

Out of the breeze today there was pockets of warm ground for this little one to bask, sitting perfectly still thinking I couldn't see it!

The female common lizard incubates her eggs inside her body therefore giving birth to live young!

Common Lizards have a clever tactic for getting away from predators. They can shed their (still moving) tail as a distraction while they make their get away. The tail will re-grow but leaves a scar. Nature is so clever!

The common Lizard is one of the six native UK reptiles and can all be found here in the New Forest including the sand lizard, slow worm, adder, grass snake and smooth snake.
