Sunshine and Showers

After making my last Christmas wreath of the year, the forest was calling. It had been a while since I had been able to get out into the forest on my own, and it welcomed me with open boughs.

The sky was a mixture of bright blue and heavy shower clouds. Starting my walk dressed for every weather, the colours and textures sparkled in the magnified raindrops.

Ancient trees twist and entwine, out of the bronzed bracken, cloaked in moss, and lean towards the light.
A song thrush sung, starlings chattered, and redwings stole berries from the holly.

The further I venture into the depths of the forest, the more it enveloped my senses. The fragrant scent of pine trees fills the air as I wander between sunlit glades and rain showers, with birds singing around me. I spotted a fox stealthily moving through the undergrowth, and as I emerged onto the heath, deer bounced away beneath the rainbow.
An enjoyable afternoon was spent strolling through puddles and gazing at the sun, with no one in sight except for the pleasure of encountering a familiar, friendly face who paused to chat before we went our separate ways. For a moment, I paused again to watch a goshawk surveying the heath before it flew into the trees. It was a beautiful conclusion to a wonderful walk.
