Augusts Newsletter

August has been hot and dry, but it hasn't deterred us from enjoying some lovely walks. We walked the array of habitats at Pigbush and enjoyed a magical walk at Longslade. The heather is in full bloom, and the ground is crunchy and dry under our feet, but the ponies look well, and nature is showing off her bounty. We are venturing beyond the cattle grids this Saturday for a walk at Martin Down Nature Reserve before September is upon us.

During September, we will be discovering the old bombing range and how nature has consumed this once heavily exploded ground from Abbotswell, which also holds stories and energies from gypsies, herbalists, and artists. We will be enjoying an evening stroll to Markway, visiting the Naked Man tree along the way. This tree has many a folktale attached to it. We will also be enjoying a walk to Ibsley Common, which still presents interesting wartime evidence, and hopefully catch sight of the rutting deer. You can find the details of any of the upcoming walks by tapping the button below.

It seems the powerful energies from the beginning of the month with Lughnasadh, the Lionsgate portal, the full moon, and the meteor shower were very triggering for some. It is always interesting in my line of work to witness the collective energies, and the first half of August certainly saw people coming to me for intuitive healing and nature therapy who were very triggered by old wounds and anxieties they thought they had managed. Thankfully, the people who acknowledged there is still some work to do have cleared that emotion from their body and made space for exciting new opportunities to arrive. I am seeing the manifestations already!

September marks the season when nature offers us a rich harvest of berries, nuts, and fruits, not only for our enjoyment but also for birds, small mammals, and insects to savour. It's a wonderful time to quietly observe nature as mice, voles, shrews, stoats, and weasels venture beyond their usual safety zones for an irresistible blackberry or acorn. September is when the migrating birds start to leave and also a time the birds start to moult, making it a great time to collect feathers from your local walks to identify which birds are making it their home.

In the New Forest, September also signals the start of pannage, when pigs are released into the forest to consume acorns and beech nuts, which are harmful to ponies and cattle. The pigs will roam from September 15th to November 28th, although this may be extended this year due to it being a mast year. Remember to admire the pigs from a distance; while they are accustomed to human interaction most of the year, you don't want to come between a sow and her piglets!

We are now in drift season too, so please adhere to signs and stay away from areas where the drift is taking place, not only for your safety but for the safety of the New Forest ponies and the commoners on horseback.

I will be collaborating with my dear friend and fellow land lover Sammie the Hedgerow Yogi. Sammie Longhorn is a herb crafter, forager and folklorist.

In our modern world, many of us have become disconnected from the abundance of nourishing and healing plants; growing wild in our native forests, fields, meadows, gardens and hedgerows. Sammie's passion is for connecting people with these incredible plants and their edible and medicinal properties.

We will be leading a guided walk together sharing our vast knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for what the land offers from medicinal plants, wild food, energetic connections, flora and fauna, local history and folklore tales.

Join us and fall into the love and enthusiasm we share on this short 3 mile walk around Minstead which offers wild hedges and verges, ancient trees, local history, and plenty of folklore stories as we bring our passions together to share with you.

𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠. The purpose is to give you a deeper knowledge and connection to the seasonal flora, fauna, energetics and people of the land.

I will also be holding another meditation and energetic connection evening on the 7th September, utilising the power of the full moon. it'll be a powerful one with the lunar eclipse which will also be taking place that evening, so it seemed like a right time to offer an evening of grounding, deep relaxation, inspiration and reminding us of our connection to all.

Its more than just a meditation evening, but you can find out more at the link below.
